Day 6, Part 2
After visiting Aulani, Drew and I made a pit stop at the Dole Plantation. We rode the Pineapple Express, woohoo!
Next, we went back to the hotel for a luau. The show consisted of dances from various Polynesian cultures, such as a Hawaiian hula about Pele bringing a friend to Hawai’i, a fa’ataupati, or Samoan slap dance and a Samoan fire dancer, and hula from Tahiti. A New Zealand haka, used to show strength before battle, and a greeting dance were also performed. Although the music wasn’t all completely traditional, it was an interesting look into the dances and chants of different cultures. As it was put by a performer in the show, “Through our stories we tell our history, and it is said that a people without a history is a lost people.”
