I am a Fund for Teachers Fellow!
” The farther I travel, the closer I am to myself.” –Andrew McCarthy
There’s something entrancing about traveling – experiencing new cultures, visiting new places, meeting new people. I love the idea of it.
In August 2017, thanks to a generous grant from Fund for Teachers and the Dalio Foundation, I’m going to have the opportunity to visit the Hawaiian Islands of Oahu and Hawaii. After being told by my principal that he was going to come observe one of my lessons, I was surprised early in April by the superintendent, assistant superintendent, my principal, and a variety of my wonderful teacher friends (two of whom are former FFT winners) with a big bunch of balloons, flowers, and an awesome red Fund for Teachers backpack.
Earlier this week, I attended the 2017 Connecticut Fund for Teachers kickoff event at the Mark Twain House. The dinner was awesome, and not just because I received my first check from the grant! You just haven’t lived until you’ve had a couple thousand dollars in check form unceremoniously handed to you across a table as if it were a stick of gum. Honestly, though, it was a fabulous night with interesting people, great conversation, and yummy food (if any of the Table 9 crew–or any other FFT winners–are out there reading this, make sure to comment and link to your own blog!).
I’m so thankful to have been one of the lucky people chosen to be a Fund for Teachers Fellow. This isn’t my first adventure and I know it won’t be my last, but it’s definitely going to be a fantastic experience and a great learning experience.
Here’s to adventure!
Have a wonderful trip and embrace this professional development experience which you will probably never be able to top !!!!
Thanks! I’m so excited!! 😀
